RONA Unveils New Collection

March 23, 2009

Boucherville, QC — RONA Inc, the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening products, launched a new collection this week under its RONA by Design brand. The collection is comprised of three lines: Oasis, Global Village and Spirit. Included in these are a set of interior doors with stained-glass windows designed by renowned artist Jean-Claude Poitras.
“Much like in the fashion world, where the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Isaac Mizrahi are creating collections for mass prêt-à-porter retailers, it’s also possible to make quality design products for ultra chic home decoration and renovation projects available at an affordable price,” said Poitras. “It’s in this very spirit that I created the stained-glass windows for RONA.”
RONA describes its 2009 Oasis collection as favouring “graceful forms and sumptuous materials in soft and muted colours. The overall look derived from the Oasis style brings to mind fine-spun embroidery, Versailles-inspired chandeliers, flowered tapestries and clear glass objects.”
The line features a European styling and strives to deliver luxurious feels at affordable prices. The colour palette employs mostly pastels and creams.
The Global Village line features a more exotic look with sharper contrasts and an ecological theme. The decors use warm colours in wood and metal tones, with inspiration from North African mosaics.
The Spirit collection is characterized by bold lines and strongly contrasting, primary colours. Reflection is the other recurring theme in this line, with chrome, mirrors and glass being prevalent.
“These days, the economic downturn is acting as a catalyst for new trends. What was once considered luxurious has become elegant, while people are less interested in ‘bling’ and are returning to an innocent sense of nostalgia built on fundamental values,” said RONA consultant Josette Buisson.
