The Vancouver Heritage Foundation will be hosting a two-day event celebrating the history of the Vancouver Special - a housing-style distinct to the city.
The event is made up of two parts. First there is a lecture scheduled to be held on September 21st, between 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church on 949 W 49th Ave. The lecture, entitled “Where Did the Vancouver Special Come From and Where Can It Go?”, will feature presentations by architect, Kenneth Terriss, and Allan Askew of Make Design + Build and Iconstrux Architecture.
The second half is a self-guided tour to be held on September 26th, from 12-5 pm. The one-day, self-guided tour of five privately owned examples, which feature inspiring interpretations of the unique Vancouver Special style. Visitors use a numbered brochure to make their way from house to house in any order they prefer. The brochure contains a description of the social history, interior design and architectural features of each participating home.
Tickets for the lecture cost $10 while the self-guided tour will be $25. Tickets for both can be purchased through www.vancouverheritagefoundation.org or on the corner of East 22nd Avenue and Edward Park in Vancouver from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the tour.
