Funding to First EQuilibrium™ Communities Project Announced
OTTAWA, ON - The first project under the Government of Canada’s EQuilibrium™ Communities Initiative will be the Station Pointe neighbourhood development in Edmonton, AB, with $481,000 in funding. Station Pointe is one of six winning projects under the EQuilibrium™ Communities Initiative, which provides financial assistance for technical and promotional activities of selected neighbourhood development projects. Through their planning, design, implementation and operation, these projects will improve current approaches in the areas of energy and water consumption, protection of the natural environment, land-use planning and sustainable transportation. Capital construction costs are not provided through the initiative.
The Station Pointe project is being planned as a transit-oriented development within the Fort Road community in the City of Edmonton, part of a larger renewal project for former industrial lands northeast of the city’s downtown. The EQuilibrium™ Communities funding will support environmental performance as well as options to improve the affordability of the project’s green upgrades.
The EQuilibrium™ Communities Initiative is led jointly and equally funded by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Technology Initiative, a component of the Government of Canada’s ecoACTION initiative.
