JELD-WEN Founder Passes Away At Age 79
WINNIPEG, MB - JELD-WEN founder Richard (Dick) Wendt passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from complications arising after a stroke. He founded the international window and door company in 1970 and expanded its North American operations in 1996. The company currently employs over 1,200 Canadians with manufacturing plants across the country.
In 1969, Dick began the JELD-WEN Foundation to provide funding for worthwhile endeavours in communities where JELD-WEN has operations. To date, the JELD-WEN Foundation has gifted more than $80 million dollars to worthwhile community causes.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of JELD-WEN, North American employees were challenged to donate 50 hours of volunteer time to a local, non-profit organization. Canadian operations jumped at the chance to help realize Wendt’s vision of community giving.
