CHBA Lethbridge: $7,500 in Scholarships To Apprentices

LETHBRIDGE — The Canadian Home Builders Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Apprenticeship Scholarship s today at a celebration lunch. In total, $7,500 in scholarships have been handed out by CHBA and CHBA members to seven deserving individuals who competed among dozens of applicants. The winners are able to use these funds to further pursue their careers.
"The reason the CHBA and its members give out these scholarships is because we are all fully invested in supporting these individuals who are building the communities we all live in." commented Angela Zuba, Executive Officer of the CHBA. "It takes thousands of skilled workers each year to build the homes we all live in and that can't be trusted to just anyone; we want to ensure that everyone involved in building a community is fully trained, highly skilled and in front of new codes, trends and best practices. The best way to do this is through education."
In addition, the lunch today also show cased the group of youth from the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division who successfully completed the spring session of the Building Bridges Between Education & Trades Program that has been developed in conjunction with CHBA members and Holy Spirit Catholic School Division. Member companies (EMCO Corporation, Empire Homes, Galko Homes Master Builder, Kodiak Mountain Stone, Lafarge and Stranville Living) have invested time into teaching students what their businesses are all about and what is to be gained by pursuing a career in the trades.
