CHBA Welcomes Further Support for Businesses
OTTAWA — The Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA) today welcomed Finance Minister Joe Oliver's announcement of a lowering of Employment Insurance (EI) premiums for employers starting January 1, 2015.
"The majority of our new home builder, renovator and trade contractor members across the country are small businesses," says Kevin Lee, CEO. "The Small Business Job Credit will help support job growth in our industry."
According to a CHBA-chaired BuildForce Residential LMI Committee report, by 2023, over 100,000 vacancies in residential construction will need to be filled.
"Today's announcement, along with previous government measures, encourages small business to invest in younger workers, which will help develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople," Lee said.
The Canadian Home Builders' Association is the voice of Canada's residential construction industry and represents more than 8,500 member companies from coast to coast. New home building, home renovation and residential development contributes to the economic growth and sustainability of Canada by generating more than $120 billion in economic activity each year, supporting jobs for over 900,000 Canadians.
