Legacy builders lead Calgary housing starts
September 1, 2017

The 51 new home permit applications for builders in the award-winning Legacy subdivision were the most of any new development in Calgary during July, according to the city’s planning and development department.
Legacy is a master-planned community by WestCreek Developments that has won the Community of the Year-City of Calgary award at the Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards in back-to-back years.
In the first seven months of this year, the Calgary region posted 6,671 housing starts, up 35.6 per cent from the same time a year earlier, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. This included 2,446 detached houses and 4,225 multi-family units.
From Legacy’s total residential permit applications in July, 48 of the 51 were detached houses.
Legacy offers single-family houses, along with duplexes, townhomes, and condos.
Its builders include Calbridge Homes, Albi Luxury by Brookfield Residential, Shane Homes, Trico Homes, Jayman Built, Stepper Homes, Morrison Homes, Sterling Homes, WestCreek Homes, Aldebaran Homes, Carlisle Group, and Brad Remington Homes.
The only other new communities with at least 40 residential permit applications in July were Mahogany and Livingston which posted 43 and 41 applications, respectively.
Livingston is a new community in north Calgary by Brookfield Residential, while the southeast lake community of Mahogany is by Hopewell Residential.
