January 28, 2018
Ontario renovation contractors may be tempted to turn from home renovations to school work this year to share in a multimillion-dollar renovate and build program.
The provincial government has announced it will spend $784 million this year on the program, which includes renovations and additions to 40 schools.
Education Minister Mitzie Hunter said the funding will also support construction of 39 new schools.
The province had previously announced it will spend $1.4 billion on school repairs over the next few years. Ontario has an approximate $15 billion repair backlog at its 4,900 publicly funded schools, according to the education ministry.
