Construction a highlight in job report
January 29, 2018
Construction employment was among the highlights in job creation in December 2017 as Canada shed tens of thousands of jobs in the month, compared to November.
According to ADP Research Institute, which tracks payroll data, total employment decreased by 71,000 jobs month-over-month, but construction gained 3,500 workers.
“The job market in Canada softened in the month of December,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “Despite strong gains in finance, construction and professional services, we saw losses in manufacturing, education and trade. Looking at all of 2017, Canada added more than 315,000 new jobs with an average of approximately 26,000 jobs per month.”
