Mattamy makes smart mandatory
February 22, 2018

Canada’s biggest homebuilder is making smart homes mandatory in all of its new builds.
Starting in March, every new Mattamy home built across Canada and the U.S.—some 7,000 homes a year—will include the voice-enabled ecobee4 smart thermostat. The ecobee4 comes with the built-in Amazon Alexa Voice Service, meaning a number of other household functions can be automated as well. In the future, Mattamy intends to work with ecobee to further advance the smart home space including the enhanced use of data.
“Mattamy and ecobee are leaders in our respective industries in terms of innovation, and we’re extremely excited about the opportunities that this unique partnership is going to offer our organizations, the industry and consumers,” said Peter Gilgan, founder and CEO of Mattamy Homes.
The partnership will enable Mattamy to build homes and communities that are compatible with smart grids. Further, new smart features will allow homeowners to optimize the energy performance of their houses using smart devices and voice-activated platforms such as Amazon's Alexa.
“Our collaboration with Mattamy will give homeowners easy entry into the smart home and a new way to save money and lower their impact on the environment,” said Stuart Lombard, CEO of ecobee.
