Luxury wood bathtubs a renovation show-stopper

July 27, 2018

If your renovation company has been asked by a wealthy client to “do something great with the bathroom,” a plastic bathtub and surround may not cut it. Sure, the stylish new porcelain bathtubs are nice, but they have also become ubiquitous.
You could consider a luxury wooden bathtub as a renovation signature piece.
The latest wooden tubs are not only beautiful they are being built with boat building technology that makes them super watertight and durable, with some featuring a discrete overflow hidden in the trim.
One option is from Washington state-based custom furniture maker Seth Rowland who designs and makes the Salish Sea bathtub. Crafted from more than 200 pieces of sustainably harvested wood in the shape of boat, these custom tubs cost approximately US$34,000.
Another option is from Swiss luxury yacht maker Algena, which sculpts wooden bathtubs and sink bowls. Algena has three distinct bathtub versions—all free-standing—any of which would be a renovation show-stopper. The prices, naturally, could also be a heart-stopper.
