Wellness latest kitchen trend

Mindfulness, a mantra for meditation and “wellness” that has become a pronounced trend, is seeping into kitchen design for 2019, designers say.
“Wellness is going to be a huge theme for 2019,” said Don DiClerico, HomeAdvisor’s smart home strategist and home expert. This concept was seconded by National Kitchen and Bath Association spokeswoman Ellie H-Millard, who forecast the trend will result in homeowners creating “wellness retreats” by buying appliances such as steam cookers and blenders to create healthier foods.
H-Millard also expects a greater connection between indoor and outdoor kitchen areas and a movement towards earthy, natural colours such as muted greens and blues.
Sliding glass walls connecting a kitchen to a deck adds an environmental element and also expands living space and natural light, she explained.
Even technology plays a part, with the experts seeing a rise in voice-activated smart controls for lighting, sound and window blinds—perhaps even appliances.
Wellness also means less stress, so H-Millard and DiClerico suggest kitchen design standbys such as granite countertops and stainless steel may give way to lower maintenance products such as quartz countertops and black stainless steel appliances.
