New appliances for condo spaces

January 28, 2020

A sink that washes dishes and range with an onboard air fryer are among the hot new appliances designed for condo living, but could also be incorporated into secondary suites during renovations.
The Fontile Sink Dishwasher was introduced at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show last year in Las Vegas and was named among the best product of the show. The sink dishwasher is small but could prove a big hit because of the number of Canadians living alone has increased and the popularity of condos continues to grow. Almost 30 per cent of the housing units in Canada now have a single occupant, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., spiking to over 34 per cent in Toronto and Vancouver.
Fontile’s efficient sink dishwasher uses only about six litres of water per cycle and requires just a few drops of dishwashing liquid. It can wash about 10 items at a time.
It could be considered ideal for small urban apartments and compact European-style kitchens.
Small spaces also benefit from fewer appliances on the kitchen counter. Frigidaire’s new line of 30-inch ranges that have a built-in air fryer will open up space on the crowded counter. These convection oven air-fryers are available in electric or natural gas models, and include a tray for french fries, chicken wings and other frying (without cooking oil). The air fry mode uses a fan to circulate hot air. The oven temperature spikes to brown the food then gradually cools down to cook the inside.
