Home renovation rebates up in B.C., Ontario

October 23, 2020

FortisBC is doubling its Home Renovation Rebates Program to as much as $2,400 per natural gas heating system so homeowners can invest in energy-efficiency renovations.
In Ontario, the 2020 Home Efficiency Rebate has been updated to offer $500 for attic insulation upgrades, $2,000 for improving an entire home’s wall insulation to R20 levels, $40 for every rough window opening that is replaced with an ENERGY STAR model, and up to $1,000 for improving the energy efficiency of a boiler or furnace.
In B.C. the majority of extra funding covers high-efficiency home heating systems like furnaces, boilers and fireplaces. Rebates for connected thermostats have also increased.
Upgrades require installation by a qualified contractor. FortisBC maintains a list of independent natural gas and electrical contractors that have appropriate licenses and are familiar with FortisBC programs.
To qualify for rebates, B.C. customers must register for a unique promo code before December 31, 2020, complete the installation using a qualified contractor by March 31, 2021 and submit the application within six months of installation.
